I Won't Live In A Future Without Socks

Charlize Theron as Meredith Vickers in Prometheus

In every bit of video footage I have ever seen of people in space, they are always wearing their socks. No one floating around with their grubby bare feet, mishapped nails or webbing between their toes. It's an unwritten rule among space travellers that you keep your socks on at all times.

Charlise can wear no socks if she wants. I'm good with that.

In fact she doesn't have to wear anything if she doesn't want to and I'm really okay with that.

Sounds good but once you touch someone's junk in zero gravity, you will quickly change your tune.

There must be some rule about certain clothes that you can't wear in space, like George Lucas' rule about how Carrie Fisher couldn't wear a bra in the first Star Wars movie, or how Grand Moff Tarkin didn't wear boots.

If Star Trek and Lost in Space taught us anything, its that the future would make pockets obsolete.

Just when you NEED pockets to put some of your stuff in. Give me a holster and a belt and maybe some suspenders. I AM IN FREAKIN' SPACE - I need to be prepared for any pants emergencies that may come up. In fact toss in one of those bubble helmets while you are at it.

I go nowhere without my Rocky and Bullwinkle socks, especially space.

And that is why we are friends. You understand how important the little things are.

Socks also come in handy when NASA screws up and needs to put a round filter in a square hole. (AKA Apollo 13)
