Cabin In The Woods - (2012)

Cabin in the Woods begins like any other teen sex horror comedy before everything gets turned on it's head. We are informed early on that the kids partying in the mysterious cabin are not alone. They are being monitored with video cameras by men in crisp white shirts - much like the shirts that government agents wears. mmmmmmm

You know immediately that this is not just another run-of-the-mill teens in peril feature. Half the fun of this one is trying to figure out just how the filmmakers are going to surprise you with fresh reactions to situations you have seen a thousand times before.

I have to admit that I was pleasantly surprised with a lot of this film. It actually is trying something new and doesn't fall back on the tried and true horror movie cliches to tell it's story. I only wish they had better explained the purpose of the facility and why those kids were chosen. Maybe that part just flew over my head. The ending only adds to the confusion.

The enjoyment of this film has a lot to do with this being a Josh Wedon movie - something he no doubt used as a warm up for the Avengers. For it's type, this is a fresh take on the teens vs killer monsters genre. Lots of things to squirm about but everything feels safe and PG.

However, it isn't nothing you haven't seen before, despite all the hype you will hear out there.

7/10

I was pretty upset that there were no trailer for me to post. Most of them were disallowed by request. Don't they want me to share their movie with as wide as possible audience? Who is the asshole behind this kind of counter - merchantising?
