'Hawthorne' Bums Me Out

I have rarely been so blatantly manipulated as I just was watched the first episode of this year's 'Hawthorne'. I love 'Nurse Jackie' and had room for another hospital drama and since this one starred Jada Pinkett Smith (who was wicket awesome in the last two 'Matrix' movies) I made it the background noise while I was doing other things.

However, Season 3 began with the wedding between the main character and her handsome doctor groom. Then she got beat up in the parking lot the night of her wedding and eventually lost her baby while the other pregnant person at the hospital - a pretty, blond, white, ex-Iraq War vet with a scared face - had a healthy baby. GAH! That is HARSH.

I turned it off before it finished and I never do that. It was just too manipulative and gut wrenching to even enjoy. Sure the acting is stellar but in the service of what? I know situations like this happen but is it entertainment to be left without hope and then have the joy of someone else rubbed in our faces?

Damn, now I HAVE to see how it all ends. Stupid television.

Oh SURE - They named the baby HOPE - DOUBLE GAH!!!

And does her cop buddy showing up with the ring of her attacker mean that he killed him? I guess when he say 'sleep well' it doesn't leave much up to the imagination. K...that was a cool way to end this episode. Even cooler to see that the cop is played by Marc Anthony (that's right - Mr Jennifer Lopez) and he is edgy and quite bad ass.

Those Freakin' Crows 2

I just saw those two troublemakers walking back and forth on my front sidewalk. They were wearing the same jackets. Since I know that they aren't an elderly couple on their way to the casino, I can only assume those crows are part of some gang or at the very least have gang connections.

I might have to up my game and advance my plans for their demise. I do hate picking up dead birds though. I had one come to life in my hands once and it made me fill my diaper.

I have been afraid of spontaneous aviary resurrections every since. I also fear chickens who are allowed to run free after they get their heads cut off. I remember watching the horror through the closed kitchen window at the farm. I remember the screaming and my shirt done up to the top button in case any blood somehow slipped past.

Those Freakin' Crows

I am growing more and more annoyed with the crows on our back fence. I am in the middle of researching some way to make their lives so difficult that they just up and leave. I don't want to kill them because that teaches them nothing. I want them to admit that they messed with the wrong human and his right to sleep anytime he wants to.

Then I read this and realize that for these two crows it is personal. That only strengthens my resolve to crush their spirits.

Crows remember the faces of threatening humans and often react by scolding and bringing in others to mob the perceived miscreant, according to a new study published in the latest Proceedings of the Royal Society B.

Since the mob members also then indirectly learn about the threatening person, the findings demonstrate how just a single crow’s bad experience with a particular human can spread information about this individual throughout entire crow communities.

I Hate How Much I Like This Trailer

Good idea to make the trailer as much about his co-stars than Cruise himself. They as group look solid. Tom Wilkinon, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner - very cool. I might just stomach my intense hatred of Tom C to steal this one online when it comes out.

A Joey In PJs - That Is All

I Like The New Look Of Red Robin

DC Comics is rebooting it's entire line of books and introducing both new characters and old characters with new looks. I don't know what was wrong with the old DC except for the clusterfuck they have made of their continuity and characters after inviting hacks like Grant Morrison to create a whole new universe for them. It was only after they realized Morrison was insane and untalented that they had to wipe the slate clean and start again. I hope some cool ideas like 'Batman Inc.' survive the change but I have my doubts.

Most of the cosmetic changes they have made to the look of the characters I could live without. Red Robin is very cool though. It's nice to see a character named after a bird actually have wings that allow him to fly. Not a great leap but one I haven't seen before. Check out the before and after pictures.

This is why the Canadian Cave of Cool exists - to show the world this kind of awesome. Two days to Canada Day. Come back then to read the traditional retelling of the 'Great Canada Day Cake Adventure', my most awesome story about a Canada Day in my life.

Oldest Restaurant

I have never been there despite the fact that it's in one of my favorite cities in the world - Salzburg Austria. I bet they make a wicked schnitzel.

Stiftskeller St. Peter is a restaurant within the monastery walls of St. Peter’s Archabbey, Salzburg. It is claimed to be the oldest inn in Central Europe because of a document mentioning it in 803 AD. Stiftskeller St. Peter is known to be the oldest continuously operating restaurant and inn on Earth, and its website states “Genuine Salzburg hospitality for over 1,200 years”. St. Peter’s Archabbey is also reputed to be the oldest monastery in the German-speaking world, having been founded in 696 AD by Saint Rupert.

The Cirkus By Franco Matticchio And Other Images From The Kitty Files

Daily Reminder - We Don't See Enough Stories Like This One These Days

Squid and scientific study are just the best combination of words. The cutting board or the dissecting table - don't matter to me where they end up as long as they no longer live to menace me and other humans who don't subscribe to their fascist philosophies.

Now This Thing Freaks Me Out

Just because I know this creature is called Ponyo it doesn't make it's appearance any less disturbing. STOP LOOKING AT ME THAT WAY!!!!

Explain This To Me

How does gooney bird Michelle Bachman mistake John Wayne the actor for John Wayne Gacy the serial killer on the day she announces her campaign for President of the United States? Talk about disqualifying yourself right out of the gate.
