Favorite Heroes - Deadman

"Deadman is a ghost, formerly a circus trapeze artist named Boston Brand who performed under the name Deadman, a stage persona including a red costume and white corpse makeup. When Brand is murdered during a trapeze performance by a mysterious assailant known only as the Hook, his spirit is given the power to possess any living being by a Hindu goddess named Rama Kushna, in order to search for his murderer and obtain justice."

-Wikipedia

Now here is a character with plenty of ennui. How depressing would it be to be a ghost that can possess people and experience what it means to be human only to have to return to being a ghost and have that happen to you over and over again? How would you keep your sanity without anyone to understand or sympathize with you situation?

When I was a kid, Deadman would show up from time to time in the pages of Batman comics. Being a former trapeze artist like Dick Grayson (Robin) there was a connection to the circus that they both shared.

His look is also very iconic. The red tights with the large collar set against the white of his skin is visually very appealing in its simplicity.

For most of his existence the character has been relegated to supporting parts but in the 'Brightest Day/Blackest Night' storyline currently underway in the DC universe he has taken on a more important role as one of the 'White Lanterns'

He has also shown up in several animated series based on the DC Universe like 'Justice League Unlimited' and 'The Batman'.

I used to love Deadman. There was one artist who did him particularly well although I can't remember his name. I just thought the whole idea was so surreal.
